Jan. 28th, 2025 09:52 amAccidentally tried to use spot remover as shaving cream this morning. Argh.
(It's not nearly as bad as it sounds: this kind of spot remover is basically glorified soap, and so's shaving cream. So no side effects as YET, aside from smelling like spot remover.)
The real problem of the week is that last Friday Trump put a freeze on all USAID programs. ( Read more... )

Dec. 4th, 2024 09:41 amTrying to find ways to abbreviate "Policy Studies Associates" without using either "PSA" or anything that looks like "Polic.Studs.Ass."

Nov. 21st, 2024 09:16 am...No, I should limit myself to a max. of ONE confusing subculture reference in the group chat at work per day.
ETA: Just blew like fifteen minutes seeing if there was a Symbol in Word for Insular autem.
A: No, there is not. There ARE signs for every archaic Greek letter you've never heard of, and for that one thing in Cyrillic that looks like the Appalachian Trail sign, which (μεν) is cool (δε) makes it extra frustrating that I can't find the h-with-a-tail I was looking for.

Jan. 4th, 2024 04:46 pmMeantime, this evening I need to (somehow, and not nec. in this order):
- Go grocery shopping
- De-decorate and yeet the tree
- Do some Duo
- Do like another hour of work
________
COVID Levels (as of 12/27): Approaching 2100 Bobcat-Robots,* i.e. somewhat HIGHER than last year. (FML)
* Again, that's my self-invented unit for "Copies of CoViD RNA per mL of wastewater in the Boston-area North System, as reported at https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm." (The name was inspired by the Pirate-Ninja + "Trochee Fixation", with a side order of "Package contained bobcat.")

Jul. 11th, 2022 09:25 amThings I am tempted to put as my out-of-office message:
The Office of Sponsored Programs* will be closed on Friday, July 15, in observance of National Research Administrators' Day.** So forget about getting anything done that day, 'cause we're all going to be at the beach.*** ( Footnotes )
(We're not ACTUALLY going to be closed, but at least half of us are going to be on vacation, so it's going to feel that way.)
Month of P: Day 1 of 31

Feb. 16th, 2022 10:03 amOn an all-staff meeting. Restraining myself from posting on the chat:
- "If the groundhog emerges wearing a dalmatic, there will be six more weeks til Lent"
- "We're worldwide b!7ch, ac' like y'all don't know!"
- "Bulls---!"
- "Every time one of the presenters says 'great', DRINK."
- "...until a new Eo emerges from the sea."
- "...in sharp contrast to our process for choosing and moving into a new office."
- "STOP WITH THE PLATITUDES"
NOT restraining myself from posting: "Savor the SNOW while we still have it."
(I then ironically borderline gave myself snow blindness while out running.)
